Island is the home of Fiji's
Firewalkers, and periodically guests
of Beqa Lagoon have the exclusive
privilege of witnessing the sacred
fire walking ceremony. Early in the
day, young men from the neighboring
village carry large branches to the
resort and build an enormous bonfire
underneath a pile of stones. When the
fire is low and the stones are
glowing red, the warriors reappear in
ceremonial dress. The eldest begins a
deep resonant chant, and slowly, one
by one, the very young to the very
old walk carefully across the
scalding stones.
 n
1994, a group of reporters from National
Geographic visited the
resort to document the sacred fire walking ceremony. They were
accompanied by a scientist who measured the heat of the stones at
over 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (650 degrees Celsius). He also examined
the firewalkers thoroughly though could offer no explanation as to
what makes the ceremony possible.
ctivities
abound from bird watching (Beqa has
many of Fiji’s species) or hiking to
a waterfall or mountain

to
kayaking

you can explore numerous beaches or
secluded islands. Secluded
picnics can be arranged where the

island and return to claim you after
snorkeling, sun bathing, and a
sumptuous lunch. Water skiing,
tube riding, or even island hopping
are all possibilities. River
rafting or kayaking on Viti Levu can
be arranged. The locals are
always willing to test their mettle
at volleyball, horseshoes or croquet.

surfing at Frigate Passage (aka
The Fiji Pipeline) is

Thanks for making our dive vacation so special. We loved diving with
you, and loved talking with Joelli. The staff is really
special--knowing our names and being so nice all of the time. It is
really wonderful to talk to the people... And the shark dive was
superb. Thanks also to the people on the island, those in Ravi Ravi
and Rukua. It was great to talk to the villagers, seeing pandanus
mats made and how kava plants are cut up and processed.

After we were over the shock at being lucky
enough to have found such a beautiful resort with good food and
great people! We played like seals, in the water for 7 days
straight! The diving was the best in 30 years. The natives
were the best of any people I've ever met world wide. The kitchen
staff was accommodating and friendly and very warm. The dive staff
was the best hands down I’ve ever been diving with! I can't give
this resort enough credit for its friendly staffing. So I won't
waste any words because it would take away from the excellent
service they offered every day. Two thumbs up Mark can I live there
for the rest of my life? “Joe” Dive masters were so attentive,
helpful, and thoughtful and a real joy to be around. They were the
most professional in the world. " Paul - Sep

We loved your resort and the diving. Thank You
for making our stay wonderful. The dive staff was great(Hi Misy and
Dix) The food was good, and fast! NO FIJI TIME HERE. Thank you, Mark
for giving us personal service. Our transfer to the other resort ran
smoothly and we are sure that at least part of this, if not all of
it, was your doing. We hope to see you again soon.
